Music has always filled Plainfield High School-Central Campus senior Georgia Sigler’s life.
She’s been playing piano since she was four years old, taking private voice lessons and playing the trumpet since sixth grade. Her mom studied voice in college, and her grandmother and aunt were music teachers, Sigler said.
Now Sigler will get the chance to showcase her vocal abilities on a big stage.
She is one of the 240 mixed choir members in the 2019 All-National Honor Ensembles sponsored by the National Association for Music Education in November.
The choir and three instrumental ensembles and bands will spend November 7 to 10, 2019 in Orlando, Florida working on music and performing concerts.
Sigler is one of 557 students nationwide selected for the choir and band ensembles.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun, I’m really excited,” Sigler said.
She auditioned for the choir after she was selected to the all-state honors choir in January 2019.
“I said to myself, if I can make all-state, I can at least try to make nationals,” Sigler said.
Sigler sings with the high school concert choir, the Madrigals, plays trumpet in the wind ensemble and is a drum major for the marching band.
She plans to study music in college and said she hopes to be an opera singer.
“I really think (music) is what I can do with my life and being named to this choir proved to me that I’m making good progress to put myself in the right direction,” said Sigler.
“It has given me the outlook that I want for my future.”
