Plainfield Academy principal to lead 66th Homecoming Parade

Plainfield Academy Principal Tod Schnowske Plainfield Academy Principal Tod Schnowske will serve as Grand Marshal of the 66th Annual Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

The parade is always one of the biggest in the state. This year, 111 registered entries will step off at 9 a.m. and proceed through downtown Plainfield.

The Community Homecoming Parade features all four District 202 high schools and all seven middle schools, most of the 17 elementary schools, the Bonnie McBeth Learning Center and Plainfield Academy.

Schnowske has earned community-wide praise for his passionate advocacy for Plainfield Academy.

Plainfield Academy is District 202’s alternative middle and high school. It comprises a variety of programs serving a diverse student body, using the district curriculum with special education accommodations.

He is active with numerous community service organizations including the Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions clubs, the Plainfield Art League and the C.W. Avery YMCA Board.

As well, Schnowske has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants and through community fundraisers to service students with disabilities, students at risk, and expressive arts therapy and arts awareness programs.  

A renowned community artist, Schnowske has also donated many of his works to raise money for various community causes and organizations.

Then-District 202 Superintendent of Schools Walter Niehus started the homecoming parade in 1952 to celebrate Plainfield High School’s homecoming week. It has grown as District 202 has grown, into a community event.

After the parade, all PHSCC alumni and friends are invited to attend the PHS Alumni Tea in the PHSCC Main Cafeteria. 

Then, the PHSCC varsity football team will take on Oswego East High School at 1 p.m. in the PHSCC Wildcat Stadium.
